RNLI Round Britain Cycle Ride
To raise funds for RNLI, Alan Cheesley (Chief Fundraiser) has decided to cycle 5000 miles over 2-3 years with the goal of visiting each of the RNLI coastlines and shops around the UK, raising much needed funds for this vital institution. The target being £5k, £1 for every mile.
C3 Imaging Managing Director, Nigel Davies, ‘in a moment of madness’, signed up for the West Wales leg of the tour from Fishguard to Bangor – having not ridden a bike for about 20 years and only a month to prepare himself. “I’ve known Alan for many years and when the opportunity arose, I was fully immersed with the idea and couldn’t wait to get started! The effort and organising Alan has made is very commendable and it showed with the strategic planning to reach our goal.”
The six volunteers cycled around 170 miles over 4 days mostly in rain and winds only cutting out a section on Sunday afternoon due to Storm Freya. In all, they visited 8 lifeboat stations which was no mean feat and completed the leg on Monday followed by a train ride back to Bristol and a hot bath!
Nigel says “It was a fantastic experience being part of a team who supported and encouraged me all the way to the end and had a lot of fun along the way. I encourage anyone wanting to see some beautiful scenery and to participate in a worthwhile challenge, making a real difference in the process.
Despite Storm Freya we made it all the way to Bangor. Nobody told me Wales was so hilly & wet! It’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done, with a great team pushing me through the pain – and with a few laughs on the way.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the encouragement and especially for the generous donations to the RNLI.”
The campaign has raised about £2500.00 so far. If you would like to donate or take part visit: www.GBcoast.co.uk
